Provides direct teaching to children, and guidance, support to teachers, assistant teachers & volunteers to ensure provision of a quality, safe and age-appropriate program to meet the development & learning needs of each child; within the philosophy of the Early Childhood Learning Center and to fulfill the mission and vision of Abilities First.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assists and collaborates with other classroom teacher(s) in establishing and carrying out long- and short-term goals for each child with the assistance of the child’s family, the Director and Assistant Director of ECLC and other department staff as needed.
2. Assists and collaborates with the teacher(s) in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities for children that encourage social, emotional, cognitive, cultural, creative, and motor development.
3. Works effectively as a member of a classroom team to provide an orderly, clean, inviting, and safe environment in which children can develop optimally.
4. This position is a hybrid position in which the employee is an active lead teacher, performing classroom duties in their assigned classroom at least 3 hours per day, 5 days per week, with the remainder of the time spent working on curriculum and assessments.
5. Develops a working relationship with each child’s family in order to maintain open communication.
6. Works with teachers and assistant teachers to ensure that parents/ caregivers receive appropriate, accurate and consistent messaging from classroom staff about their children and classroom management. Participates in routine communication & coordination with therapists and other specialists involved with the children to ensure carryover in classroom activities.
7. Coordinate planning, designing, and development of course content and assessments. Develop content aligned to the Early Learning Standards and Science of Reading.
8. Maintains compliance with licensing regulations & SUTQ guidelines, AFF Code of Ethics, Abilities First Employee Handbook, and policies providing real time information to parents as requested and/or needed, including, but not limited to: diapering, meals, activities, and incidents.
9. Performs all student formal assessments and maintains compliance with screening tools with classroom teachers. This could include data collection and tracking, meeting deadline and guiding classroom teachers in developing a system for data collection and tracking to maintain compliance with SUTQ
requirements, making referrals to the Assistant Director and Director of ECLC for outside resources, and following up with Orientation specialist with new enrollments.
10. Knows and uses ethical guidelines in conduct as a member of the Early Childhood Learning profession, including but not limited to active supervision, engagement and interaction, and health and safety guidelines in place by ODJFS and the center/ agency.
11. Develops professional growth plan with the Director and/ or Assistant Director of ECLC ands shows progress by completing in services, seminars, trainings, and required classes. Meets professional development standards required by SUTQ, ODJFS, and program leadership.
12. Attends and participates in staff meetings and other professional development days as assigned by Abilities First Leadership. All staff meetings and professional development days and opportunities are considered mandatory for all ECLC staff, unless otherwise authorized by the Director of the Early Childhood Learning Center.
13. Performs other duties deemed necessary by the Director of the Early Childhood Learning Center and/or the Senior Director of Children’s Services.
FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING
Minimum of Associates degree in related Education field required.
2 years working with planning and implementing curriculum with children birth to age 8.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of two years’ experience working in an early childhood or other educational setting; experience working with children with different abilities preferred. Understands and speaks English fluently. Desires to be a participating member of an organization which values employee involvement and diversity. Must be able to move freely and quickly around the physical environment, including on and off the floor; be physically able to lift and position children up to sixty-five (65) pounds unassisted.
